Impressions on a Landscape & Committed Documentarians
Urban and natural landscapes inevitably undergo flux and evolution. This can be accomplished physically, often by means of human imprint, as well as metaphorically through a change in vantage. The Gallery will present a selection of photographs by Dutch artist Witho Worms to illustrate how we create and present what surrounds us. The Gallery will also feature the work of two important documentary photographers who have engaged in long term immersive projects for over fifty years. Jane Evelyn Atwood and Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen have been living in the UK and France since 1968 and 1971, respectively. Konttinen is a founder-member of Amber, a collective of photographers and filmmakers whose focus is to document the working class and marginalized communities. An inspiration to many, Amber was started in 1968 and still continues to this day. And complimentary to these will be examples by J. D 'Okhai Ojeikere of his extensive archive of Nigerian hairstyles from the 1970s.
