Johanna Benaïnous (1991) and Elsa Parra (1990) are a duo of visual artists. They met in NYC, at the School of Visual Arts in 2014. They have been awarded The City and Public Award of the International Photography Festival of Hyères 2019. After FIAC, Paris Photo and Art Paris, they will be part of "Les rencontres d'Arles" 2020. We will show some portraits and a film of the series "A Couple of Them" : 88 images for which the artists take turns in the skin of characters imagined during their urban explorations. A set of touching characters, seemingly real, that one would swear to have already met. It is the album of a generation, in a way, through which Elsa & Johanna explore identity and gender in our society, investigating the question of self representation. Exclusive for Paris Photo New York will be a series of images from a new series shot in Calgary (Canada) in 2018. More cinematographic and narrative, these pictures mix self-representation and still lives in fragmented stories.
